Waxing Moon

Yesterday marked the Autumn Equinox, the day of balance before the seasons tip toward darkness. We are on the other side of summer now. Days become appreciably shorter, nights longer. Since the moon is the patron of the night, you who have been honoring the moon's power through ritual will find this a comforting time. It is when we begin to turn inward. But before we go too far inward, enjoy the experience of balance in honor of Libra, the heavens' keeper of the scales.

Libras express balance through a desire for harmony and an appreciation of beauty and order. Order is associated with law. Law loops us back to Libra with those scales. Think of this time of year as the balancing of accounts, the manifestation of effect from cause, my tat for your... tit. (Forgive me, I couldn't resist.)

There is a magical law that says what you send out in the world returns to you three times over. Many spiritual traditions convey that what surrounds us are results from past actions. Something each of us did, thought or said contributed to what is here now. It may have been ten years ago, ten minutes ago, or ten lifetimes ago, but as co-creators of the universe, we have an active hand in manifesting the now. More so than many of us would like to admit.

As an act of waxing moon magic, choose one circumstance in your life and claim responsibility for having created it. You do not need to know how or why you created it. Just claim it. Don't try to shed it or undo what is done -- that's for the waning moon. What is done is done. The powerful question is what will you create next? What will you create from here? Given all that is so right now, then what?

No pipe dreaming or wishing away. This circumstance is like your sofa. There it is: your sofa. It's not going anywhere unless you or someone else moves it. Since you have no control over anyone but yourself, if you want that sofa moved, you're going to have to take some action. Action, in a metaphysical sense includes doing, thinking or speaking. You could call someone on the phone and ask her to come over and move the sofa. You could do all kinds of woo woo magic (which I love) and perhaps your roommate will have a sudden inspiration to move the sofa. Or you can move the sofa yourself.

Ma'at, the Egyptian goddess of law and order, can give you a hand. Like Libra, Ma'at also bears the symbol of the scales.

Speak to her plainly. Tell her of your circumstance. Say: "Ma'at, this is what is so:" and describe the situation without judgment or blame. Just the facts, ma'am. Not who did what or why. Just the condition of now.

Then ask for her help to bring the situation to what is desired. Tell her of the balance you seek. Say: "I desire:" and describe the condition you would like to experience. Avoid the negatives, like "I don't want this." Stick with a description of what you do want.

Close your request, like so: "With your help, may my actions effect this outcome for the greatest good of all."

They will.

Oh, and don't forget to thank the goddess for her assistance!
