Waxing Moon
Yesterday marked the year's turn into the Chinese astrological sign of the Boar. Celebrated on the second new moon after Winter Solstice, the Chinese new year is part of an ancient lunar calendar, still a vital part of Chinese culture even after over 4,700 years! An unbroken system based on the rhythms of the moon is a treasure to the modern moon-loving maven.
Tonight, take cues from the Boar, who savors the finer things in life and knows how to have a good time.
Ease into the evening with a steamy shower or other gentle rejuvenator. Put on one of your favorite outfits, perhaps one you empowered in our first ritual. It will be especially fitting if it's something you've been waiting for a special occasion to wear. The Boar tells us you don't have to wait for the occasion — you make the occasion. In fact, you are the occasion!
Dress to impress... yourself. If makeup is your glam, slick on the lipstick. If your thing is simple cashmere, then slip on the softness. Your style is your own — you know what looks good and feels divine. When you're properly attired to honor the Boar's flair for luxury — through your own interpretation, of course — go admire yourself. Check yourself out from as many angles as your mirrors allow... and offer yourself only praise. The Boar is kind and considerate, and wouldn't dream of dissing you. So don't you, either!
Take yourself out on the town. This needn't be a long adventure nor an expensive one. Be sure to choose a specific destination. Go to your favorite restaurant for dessert. Or sip a sparkling water at a posh bar. Or stroll down a charming street. Boars are sensual, but not always practical, so here's a friendly reminder: If you choose an eatery, be sure to call ahead to make sure they're open. (More than one Monday night has seen me staring hungrily at a "closed Mondays" sign on the door of a favorite restaurant.)
Before you step out the door, wrap yourself up in your own best company. When you cross the threshold into the darkness of the moonless night, you are taking a stand for self-sufficiency. You are sending yourself the message that you don't need others to define your moments, possibilities, or pleasures. You're not heading out into the cold to wander, looking for something to fulfill you. You're practicing the art of enjoying your own companionship.
I celebrate myself tonight
My soul's own glorious light
I enjoy my own company
Savoring sweet intimacy.
You can repeat this mantra as you hail a cab, hop in the car, catch a bus or hoof it. If anyone asks you where you're going, offer coyly that you've got a special date. With a twinkle and wink, you're off!
After the ritual, share your experience in our community section.
